There are many sources in internet that describes to you the definition of Graphics design. But to me, when it comes to those definitions, as an amateur and non tech guy, they all go over my head. So today, let us understand what Graphics design really is all about in simple words. We can say it’s all about creating a design that is ‘Pleasurable-meaningful-usable’ .When you put together word, picture, arts and magic with a little help of technology, it’s called Graphic design. It’s all about creativity as the options are endless with modern high tech graphics tools. But at the end of the day, it’s up to the designer, what he would like to do and how.
It is a kind of creative and systematic plan to solve a problem and to achieve certain objectives and goals, mostly for business world. To present one’s products or to reach in people’s mind and heart, all you need is a stunning Graphics design presented to your target audience.
Raster graphics, where each pixel is separately defined, example- Digital Photo
Vector graphics, where mathematical formulas are used to draw lines and shapes, which produce the graphic.
Taking about the designs it can create, basically there are four types of Graphic designs: Business design, Enterprise design, Products design, and Execution design.
It is a wide technology to achieve best results for advertisements, special effects and one’s imagination. Even the cinema and media industry use it to enhance their visual quality and effects. On the other note, one bad graphics can ruin everything. Any graphic design is meant to be eye catching, it can be bold or soft but either way the ultimate goal is to create an impact to its audience.
So how do the designers do it? Well, it’s all about practice and imagination. Of course the tools are there, but if one not sure what he/she wants to achieve out of these tools, they are useless, right?
In current world modern businesses can’t think of anything but urging for Graphics presentation for their customers. So one’s career is in real good shape for those who love to create digital art. You name anything -clothing and textile sector, media and printings, motion art, websites, video games, book and leaflets, newspapers, any digital art is a product of Graphics design. Today’s world, you simply can’t deny or ignore it.
Creating graphics design also includes illustrations, logos, layouts and photos for highest eye catching impacts. Here the Designer’s job is to define client’s requirements, and creating visualizations and graphics including illustrations and art.
When one is onto create something using graphics, one he/she better know and understand certain things like the brand identity and design style, design inspiration, market competition, proper color and typography.
Designer should monitor how their works match the users’ expectations and how they react according to their mindset and needs. With user’s psychology, age , group, culture and habit in mind, it’s important to stay focused on some graphic design considerations like Symmetry and Balance , Flow & Pattern, The Golden Ratio ,The Rule of Thirds which means how users’ eyes recognize good layout and of course proper Typography .
A very important thing to keep in mind is to build up a good interaction that users don’t even notice how they got from point A to point B, becoming a customer from origin of their target group. Extra amount of effort and complexity at the other hand can create confusion and chaos to its viewers. As a designer one should not be looking for this for sure. Sometimes just a few seconds more can be “unreasonable” causing negative effects rather than fulfilling its aim.
So, how to begin with?
A must have for starting the graphics jobs are following:
Laptop, desktop, monitor calibrator, reliable (yes, you heard it right- it says reliable) hard drive, graphics tablet and stylus, top end smart phone, Studio camera, high-res monitor, creative and antivirus software (definitely you don’t want to put your hard work at risks), VPN and Productivity software, sketchbook, and last but not least comfortable chair and table set up (comfort is a must when it requires a good amount of time and effort to create an art )
Beside these hardwires, what else one need? Imagination and freedom is all we are asking for. The cloud may be blue, the water may b yellow, who says it can’t be? Open your up your mind, dream it big and there you are .Ready to rock!
Nothing is impossible when it comes to graphic art.
